Anyone that has ever lived or vacationed in Oregon State can say that this is one of the loveliest places in the country and it is a perfect place for biking. The area is extremely different and the biking trails in Oregon show the most extraordinary scenery and test your skills no matter how well you ride. Below are some well-known Oregon biking trails:
For a leisurely family ride along the seaside, go to Cannon Beach Trail in Cannon Beach, Oregon. Here you will find flat ground that is a five miles out and back trail. Some of this trail is on pavement and some on packed sand. Have fun in the sunshine and cool off by the sea. On your journey, you will pass Haystack Rock, which is a wildlife sanctuary that houses puffins, gulls and other ocean birds.
The Ashland Watershed Trail is for more advanced bikers. This is a 25 mile loop trail near Ashland that requires advanced skills due to the steep initial climb and fast descent at the end. The area is lush and heavily shaded at most times of the year and the panoramic views are beautiful when you reach an outcropping where you can stop and look out at the surrounding mountains and down into the valley below.
Another technically advanced trail that experienced bikers will enjoy is the forty-two mile loop at Gold Beach called Lower Rogue River Trail. This trail takes you through a rainforest and has lovely scenery on a challenging trail. You will handle steep climbs, a lot of creek crossings, roots, rocks, narrow cliffs and overgrowth. When reaching the half way mark on this trail you may decide to take a paved and gravel trail for the return ride if you do not want to face the extreme trail on the way back.
Champoeg State Park near Butteville is a great place for family biking. In fact, part of the bike trail is devoted to teaching kids about bike safety and the rules of biking. Most of the trails are easy enough for all skill levels however one portion on the eastern end of the park has a steep climb to tackle. These are out and back trails that cover around eight miles
Mary’s Peak close to Corvalis is a thirteen-mile loop trail that is meant for experienced riders. This trail goes up nearly 4100 feet and when you reach the top you can enjoy the view of the Pacific Ocean on one side and the Cascades on the other. The grueling climb to the top is certainly worth the amazing view. Be aware that this trail is dangerous when wet, so it is best enjoyed in good weather.
Mitchell Road located in Post Canyon is a short six-mile loop trail that provides an intense workout. The trail goes through the Hood River County Forest where you can see beautiful wooded scenery and view of Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams, and the Columbia River Gorge. The trail is made up of part dirt, part gravel and slick rock in some parts. This is a physically strenuous trail, with technical parts that poses a good challenge for riders.
