While I detest Allen Iverson due to what he did in Detroit with my Pistons, corrupting what was an especially tightly knit group that happened to be one of the most talented franchises in the Eastern Conference, I ought to put my disdain for the guy to the side.

Not since I would like to, but since the major acquisition in the history of the Memphis Grizzlies’ franchise happened on Wednesday. Iverson at long last addressed the doubt that various Memphians have been asking.

Will he sign with the team or not?

Through his Twitter account, Iverson, who will now be getting $3.5 million this season for the Grizzlies, ended all of the assumption and agreed in provisions to become a part of the Grizzlies, his 3rd franchise in the past four years.

The agreement additionally includes bonuses for reaching the playoffs, one thing that hasn’t happened since ’06 (when they fell victim to the Mavs during the 1st round), and if they make the NBA finals.

Over the seasons, Iverson has had challenges grasping leadership and taking whatever role that comes to him (i.e.: Detroit) and clashing with coaches (example: the 76ers), which is why barely any franchises had been interested in Iverson after his catastrophe in Detroit.

This time he has chance to do something comparable to what he accomplished in Philly (in his youngest days) and steer the fortunes of this franchise around and do it with a trio of young stars in O.J. Mayo, Rudy Gay, and Hasheem Thabeet.

While we should not pencil the Grizzlies in for the playoffs by any account, it’s not hard to assume that the team will be improved from latest season.

If Iverson stays more than one season, maybe there could be an opportunity, but I don’t suppose people ought to get their hopes up on the fact that the Grizzlies will make the playoffs.

It’s too soon.
