We all like to have a place to call our own, no matter what our age; yet, while we work hard to achieve a place like this, we often forget that even small children need it. They need a place where they can create whatever it is that their imagination has decided that they need at that particular moment in time.

What is the space used for? Drawing and coloring is one pass-time favored by many small children. Some like to paint pictures of their family and friends or perhaps their favorite teachers. It makes them proud when their creations are displayed in the communal family spaces.

Every child needs and deserves to have this place to call their very own. They need a place where they can take a break from what is going on around them and relax. They need a place where they can create.

In fact, one could call this a creative station. It is important for the child’s comfort that this creative station be outfitted with furniture pieces that are of a comfortable design and scale. A kids-sized table and chair set is a great way to set up an area like this because it provides a place for friends to come and visit and share in the creative energy! You could even add an interesting jigsaw puzzle that mixes something educational with something fun!

Small children love to explore their surroundings in creative ways and they love to learn! Keep your children in mind when designing their spaces. Remember that children are smaller than adults so keeping the size of the furniture consistent will help them feel comfortable in their space and relate to it better.

Imagine that you are creating a tree house or play house for your child instead of just a bedroom; that will give both of you a lot more freedom in design and scale. If you are hanging pictures on the wall, put them at eye-level for a child, not for an adult. Make their room something that is suited to them in size.

A child’s room is the place where they can grow in mind as well as in body. Help them discover the world around them and give them the keys to lead a happy life!
